The leader of the Opposition in Parliament (LoP), Winnie Kiiza has survived death in an accident that happened Saturday afternoon on the Kampala – Masaka highway.
Kiiza was traveling in a land cruiser registration number UG 0251H when her car was knocked by a truck registration number UAY 069W that was ferrying sand from Lwera wetland, Police said.
The Woman MP for Kasese District was heading to Masaka.
The accident happened at Kibukuta swamp between Nabusanke Trading Center and Buwama Town Council in Mpigi District.
People who witnessed the nasty incident said that that the speeding sand truck, after its driver lost control, knocked Winnie Kizza’s vehicle.
It hit the side where she seated.
Katonga regional traffic police commander, Ruth Kyobutungyi was quoted by Daily Monitor saying that Francis Barigye, the truck driver is the only person who was injured in the accident.
Kiiza’s car was also damaged on some parts.
“We have arrested him (truck driver) because he caused a minor accident and was driving carelessly. He’s going to receive medical attention from the police clinic,” Ms Kyobutungyi said.
Mr Barigye is now in custody at Buwama Police Station and Ms Kiiza recorded statement before she was later allowed by police to proceed with her journey.
