Telecom firm; MTN Uganda has on Tuesday partnered with multinational media company; StarTimes to offer special promotional MTN TV bundles for viewers to watch StarTimes entertainment, sports and news on their smartphones via the StarTimes App.

The partnership follows the company’s recent collaboration with Kwese’s Iflix that is offering MTN users the ultimate Kwese entertainment experience, which as well includes the live coverage for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, and much more on Kwese Iflix platform with the best programs curated especially for African audiences, to stream or download.

The Chief Marketing Officer of MTN Uganda, Mr. Olivier Prentout, on behalf of MTN was happy about the partnership with StarTimes, stating that its their vision of delivering a bold, new digital world to their customers.

MTN customers will be in position to live stream programs on their smartphones anywhere via the StarTimes App using the newly MTN TV bundles with the least being UGX2,000 for two hours, UGX4,000 for four hours. The timely bundles only work at the time of activation/usage. For instance if one bought the two hour package, the s/he watches for like 20 minutes and hangs up, the timer also stops at the 20 minutes, and will resume at the time of watching.

Olivier told the press, that the video content uses a lot of data to stream/watch/download. Introducing these timely bundles will allow the user to stream/watch their program without worrying of running out of data.

“Using our partnership, we shall offer time based bundles; so if you for example you’re streaming a football match, you can buy a two hour bundle and never worry about running out of data mid-way your viewing,” Olivier tells the press the media conference held at the MTN Headquarters.

During the media conference, Aldrine Nsubuga, Vice President and Brand & Marketing Director of StarTimes Uganda spoke about the future of television being streamed through the internet rather than through telecommunications, multichannel televisions and broadcast television.

He stated that with more and more people being connected to smartphones and steady internet, TV will become something that will be mandatory to access on the go. And that’s where smartphones come in. One is able to watch TV via their phones through mobile applications.

Notably, StarTimes, also had the same partnership with Africell Uganda earlier this month.

To load a bundle, MTN customers can dial *165*4*7# and select StarTimes.
