While half the nation was buried and carried away by the heated Age Limit Debate in parliament and covering nearly majority media outlets, MTN Uganda was silently rolling out new Mobile Money features and additions to their menu ahead of the festive season.

While most users had hope that the Mobile Money rates would be reduced ahead of the Christmas period, no! MTN Uganda was making rather a few additions to the platform. Whereas the withdraw limit for mobile transactions was initially only UGX 4,000,000, MTN increased the limit up-to UGX 7,000,000.

For one to send a tune of up-to UGX 4,000,000 – 7,000,000, they will be charged UGX 2,000 when sending to MTN Mobile Money Customers and UGX 55,000 to Non-MTN Mobile Money Customers. When you are withdrawing, you will be charged UGX 49,500.

In the midst of their additions, MTN Uganda also added the amount limit of depositing to UGX 7,000,000, buying airtime via Mobile Money with a daily maximum account holding limit of UGX 15,000,000 all for Free

Early this year after the Financial Year Budget 2016/17 was read, we reported that MTN Uganda slashed their Mobile Money rates and this saw the rates of sending Money to MTN customers and non-customers slightly changed by the giant yellow network. We took a close and detailed look at how much increased, what remained the same and what decreased the rates. There were also some significant changes in the withdrawal rates and this has since not changed.

These changes and additions are already in place and are effective.
