Minister Elioda calls for use modern technology in fight against poverty

Minister of science, technology and innovation, Hon. Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye, addressing science, technology and innovation experts, at the G.STIC conference in Brussels.

The Minister Science, Technology and Innovation Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye has called for the increment for more support in the fight against problems challenge the African continent.

Speaking during the Global Science, Technology and Innovation Conference (G-STIC) – Brussels Belgium, Minister stated problem like poverty, Malnutrition, access to better health services as the core of the Millenium Declaration for the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs).

“We need to provide technological solutions to better fight common infectious diseases such as TB, HIV, Malaria, Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) as well as non-communicable diseases (Cancer, Cardio-vascular Diseases, Diabetes, trauma etc.,). We need to increase coverage to free health care.” Elioda said.

In the same plea, the minister called for the need to adopt modern technology in the fight against the global challenges and advancing better agricultural skills to combat poverty.

“Effective technology transfer is therefore critical if we are to achieve increases in food production, secure future supplies, enhance farmers’ incomes and preserve the environment.” He added.

The G-STIC Conference series brings together key stakeholders from science, technology and innovation communities (including the private sector), and provide a forum to review, discuss and identify internationally relevant technological innovations that can lead the world on a more sustainable development course.
