Uganda’s first toll highway connecting Kampala Capital City to Entebbe where the country’s only airport is located has been officially opened by the chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference(CPPCC), Wang Yang and his Ugandan counterpart, Yoweri Museveni.

The 51.4-kilometre Kampala-Entebbe Expressway which was funded by the Chinese Government is expected to ease business by reducing the traffic on Entebbe Road making it easy for goods and people to move to and from the airport and L.Victoria on schedule.

In 2009, the government of Uganda began consultations with the government of the People’s Republic of China regarding the construction of a four-lane (dual-carriage) highway connecting Entebbe and Kampala. In November 2010, the two governments signed an agreement where the Chinese government, through the Exim Bank of China, would lend up to US$350 million for the construction of the highway, repayable over forty years.

Worth noting is that the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway has 19 fly-overs and bridges with a total length of 2,770 metres. It also hosts Nambigirwa Bridge, the longest four-lane bridge in Uganda and East Africa with over 1,400 metres.
