There is no doubt Moses Ssali aka Bebe Cool is one of the best musicians in the country.
However, his troubles began last year when he and a bunch of other artists recorded a campaign song, “Tubonga Nawe” for NRM party presidential candidate Yoweri Museveni.
The song was received with mixed reactions but most people were not impressed, especially because the song only praises the incumbent and does not shed light on the issues that are affecting many people in the country.
Bebe Cool has faced alot of criticism on social media and other media outlets for taking part in the the project. This was noted as betrayal to the same people who support his music. His wife Zuena Kirema has been noting all the comments and slowly hurting from within.
On Tuesday February 9th 2016, Zuena posted on Facebook about how her husband had stopped over on his way to work to have a chat with the ‘locals’. “My boo on his way to work today decided to stop and have a chat with the locals, they talked about Religion, politics, marriage & money making ideas…he always has time for omuntu wabulijo as he calls them, I nicknamed him Omuntu wabantu & am sure the people he moves with will totally agree with me.”
This further angered fans who said that he was just looking for more votes for Museveni, who has been branded a dictator by the media, as the polling day comes closer. Below are some of the comments the fans stated.
Senga Lily Sanyu: What else do you expect him to do when he needs votes for m7 he has to act that in order to convince them to vote. If this wasn’t the case he wouldn’t have been with those locals. Mutubalemu kumagezi you and your husband. Let him also take back the cries of the locals to the president.
Kiyita Brian: that fool is a curse to this nation he is busy eating tax payers money yet people are suffering.
Evelyn Mugume: He can be omuntu wabantu now, but after elections he will turn back into the arrogant “extra large munene munene” . Believe me mummy Zoo, ur husband isn’t omuntu wabantu babulijjo.
Nanteza Recheal: stupidity just why does he talk to them during elections? thats manipulating the poor instead of helping them get a better president mstweee..wambuuzi bebecool indeed his in a rental at that age stupid old man
The mother of four weighed in on all these rather harsh comments, disrespect and hate talk about Bebe Cool and yesterday took to the same platform to defend her husband. In the long post, she calls for people to respect her husband and accep his decisions as a normal citizen. Here is what she wrote.
“My husband has suffered…when he decides to perform for the incumbent president on his rallies mbu he’s begging for money, when he decides to campaign for someone he thinks is right, mbu he’s selfish, not knowing he is a citizen too & just performing his rights forgetting that they also have rights to campaign for whoever they want. When he buys a new car mbu tax payers money. When he pays over 30 m for someone’s medical bill mbu he should have built a house instead of wasting money. When he starts building mbu sente zafe zazanyilamu. When he pauses building to concentrate on bigger plans mbu he nolonger has money to complete his house as if he’s building it for them.When he decides to do something for his family mbu ayonona sente ate nga landlord amubanja as if landlord yayise muye amubanjizeko. When he does charity mbu yelaga. When he speaks his mind mbu he’s arrogant as if you have been stopped to say yours furthermore challenge him. At this point i think we should stop pointing fingers at others coz you have no idea how one survives or hustles through the day just to put food on the table for his family, as long as he doesn’t murder someone to make his family happy, he deserves respect. PS. Am not seeking for public sympathy but just a piece of advice. My fellow citizens let’s learn how to give respect where’s it’s due, a candle looses nothing by lighting another candle. As for you my love continue with the Golden heart, the few who know you will slowly appreciate. I know you don’t like being showered with praises but allow me to do this just this once.
