Yesterday the Uganda Performing Rights Society (UPRS) held their elective annual general meeting at Satellite Hotel Kisaasi where faded singer Dr Tee was elected as the new chairman together with 15 other directors on the board.

Although everything seemed well from the look of it,  it was clear that most musicians who had been invited didn’t turn up. “Only a few band artistes like Chance Nalubega, Dr Hilderman, Producer Rinex and among other artistes from different regions showed up but no big popular musician was in attendance ” said a source.

Insiders assert that the association has tried to entrench a few changes like the launch of the new app that will monitor how many times an artiste’s music is played and the location where it’s being played from, but still most of our top musicians seem not to concur with the way the association operates and accuse it of cheating them.

It’s believed that last year the association collection over 600 millions but only gave out 69 millions for remuneration towards the stakeholders something which sparked off the rift during the meeting as the artists once again questioned the credibility of UPRS.

We will keep you posted.
