Makerere University students celebrating during last year’s graduation
After weeks of exchange of bitter words, Makerere University has finally cleared the graduation of over 4000 students from its affiliate college of Makerere university business school (MUBS).
This follows the decision by the two institutions resolving their disagreements over functional fees amounting to over shs. 2billion.
According to the vice chancellor of Makerere University professor Barnaba Nawangwe had threatened to block the graduation of more than 4000 MUBS students over the institution’s failure to submit more than 6.2 billion in functional fees to Makerere University over a 4 year period.
In the same plea, the MUBS Principal Prof. Wasswa Balunya has agreed to remit the fees for the 4000 students to Makerere University saying they had negotiations with Makerere management and ministry of education to have their students graduate as the institution clears their fees.
Nawangwe says that the graduation of MUBS students will take place on the 18th of January since MUBS has managed to clear Shs3.8 billion, leaving only Shs 2.6 billion as outstanding balance.
